Crime & Punishment
Medieval Europe (900CE - 1450CE)
The punishments of the Medieval Europe times were very harsh.
The Medieval punishments were harsh so that the citizens would be scared and
never break the law and they were. But some people choose to break the law and
face these horrible consequences. Some of the worst punishments were Ordeal by
Fire, Ordeal by Water and Ordeal by Combat. Ordeal by Fire is when the accused
has to hold a red hot bar and walk four steps. After their hand was bandaged. At
court after 3 days if the hand was beginning to heal they were innocent, but if
the hand had no sign of healing they were guilty. Ordeal by Water was when they
were thrown in the water with their hands and feet tied up if they stayed
afloat, but if they sank they were innocent. Ordeal by Combat was when the
accuser would fight Noblemen (most of the time) to death. The winner was
considered right about the decision. The crimes in Medieval days were mostly
done by thieves and burglars. They stole and took because at a young age their
education was limited and they couldn’t get a job.
21st Century (2001 - 2101)
Now days we use the system called Trial by Jury. A group of
random Australian citizens are collected and hear both sides of the story. After
the accuser and the accused have spoken the jury form a decision to find the
accused guilty or not guilty. some of the punishments are being jailed or getting
the death penalty such as the lethal injection.
